We are a nonprofit organization that seeks to promote the art and excellence of watercolor painting. Our members include many instructors who teach at all levels and artists who exhibit at prominent galleries, museums and in nationally acclaimed shows. Some serve as jurors; others give demonstrations and programs for art and community groups.

FEATURED ARTIST

JoAnne Ramsey
As an art educator, JoAnne Ramsey worked with thousands of students during her 33-year career in public schools, encouraging them to create and enjoy all aspects of the visual arts.
Now in retirement, it is her turn to delve into her chosen field and hone her personal techniques in the creation of watercolor paintings. Through her love of photography, she captures subjects that she finds interesting. She then crops and edits the photographs, which become a point of departure for her paintings.
“My subject matter runs the gamut. I particularly love to paint close-ups of subjects that have lots of detail. Flowers, animals, shop windows, and figures are just a few of the subjects that appeal to me due to their color, value range, texture, and patterns. My style is representational but not photo realistic. Some subjects are enlarged to the point of abstraction. Often surfaces are treated or layered to add texture and dimension.
“Painting is an ever-evolving process in which an artist combines life experiences, learned technique, and personal choices in order to make a statement. There are many levels on which an individual views a work of art.  My goal is that each person who views my work finds it meaningful on a level personal to them.”
