by the Potomac Valley Watercolorists

April 26 — May 31, 2003

Invitational Gallery
Strathmore Hall
North Bethesda, Maryland

print, fill out, and return entry form

All PVW artists are encouraged to enter this show, which will hang in the Invitational Gallery at Strathmore at the same time as the Baltimore Watercolor Society's Mid-Atlantic Exhibit in the Main Galleries. The two exhibits will be viewed by a large number of people enthusiastic about the medium.

Work Eligible

Paintings must be primarily water-based media; collage materials, if used, must be painted by the artist. All works must be professionally presented, ready for hanging with hardware in place and under glass or rigid Plexiglas. Mats should be white or off white. Because of the size of the gallery, there is a strict size limit on paintings: the image size cannot exceed 15 x 22" (half sheet) or 330 sq. in., and the maximum framed size is 22" x 28" or 616 sq. in. For security reasons, the smallest frame size that can be accepted is 10" x 12" (120 sq. inc.). All entries submitted must be available for purchase at the time of the exhibit, with the sale price, including a 30% commission to Strathmore set at the time of entry.

Method of Selection

The show will be selected from slides of paintings. Artists may submit 2 slides but only one painting may be accepted.

Juror and Awards Judge

David Daniels, well-known Maryland watercolorist, has agreed to serve as juror to select a show of between 25 and 30 paintings, and will choose awards as well. Awards will be announced and given out at the opening reception.

Entry Fee

$5.00 for 1 or 2 slides. Checks should be made out to PVW.

Procedure

Fill out all information on the entry form and on the notification form. All slides should be labeled with the entrant's name, title, medium, image size, framed size, and indication of the top of the painting. One slide per work should be sent with the completed entry form, notification form, a #10 business size self-addressed stamped envelope, and entry fee to:

Connie Boland
5309 Cardinal Court
Bethesda, MD 20816

Entries must be postmarked no later than February 5, 2003

Notification and Return of Slides

Selections will be announced no later than March 1, 2003. Slides of accepted works will be retained for publicity for the duration of the exhibit, and will be returned to the artist when the paintings are picked up at the end of the show. Slides of works not included in the show will be returned in the SASE with the notification form.

Sales

The Strathmore Hall Arts Center will handle all sales and will retain a 30% commission on all art sold during the exhibit and for the 30 days following the exhibit. All prices, set by the artist at the time of entry to include the 30% commission, will remain the sale price for the duration of the show. Artists who exhibit work will need to provide social security numbers so that sales may be properly handled.

Liability

Strathmore and PVW will exercise professional care in handling all entries, but neither organization can assume liability for loss or damage, however caused, while works are in the Center's possession or in transit. Paintings on exhibit will be insured through the Strathmore Hall Arts Center policy for 70% of the sale price indicated on the entry form.

Delivery of Work

All work accepted into the show will be hand delivered to the Strathmore Hall Arts Center on Thursday, April 24, from 10 am to 12 noon.
