PVW Painting Trip to Campobello island, new Brunswick, Canada - September 8-15, 2002

We'll stay at the Owen House (www.owenhouse.ca), a beautiful country inn where Margaret Kranking has been taking classes for several years. She will be there with her class the week before and may stay for a few days with PVW members.

Owen house has panoramic water views from every room. The Owen family ran the island of Campobello as a feudal estate for nearly a century. The old house still has most of the original construction, furniture from the 1800s, quilts and fireplaces. There are nine guest rooms and seven baths.

The web site gives you rooms, views and daily room rates. Participants will make their own travel arrangements as well as book their own rooms. Be sure to mention Peggy's name and get a 10% discount. Given U.S./Canadian exchange rates, rooms re reasonable (about $65-90 per night) and breakfast is included Taxes are also refunded when you return to the states. Most rooms are double occupancy, so further savings will accrue if you get yourself a roommate and share costs. You can stay the week or come for a few days.

Peggy says there's a golf course nearby, the Roosevelt compound, three lighthouses, and hiking trails. There's lots to paint. The Inn has a big porch where we can paint in case of rain. And the Inn is filled with antiques -- the owners will allow us to paint interiors of the public spaces, but no painting in the bedrooms. There's no smoking, no laundry facilities and no use of oils or acrylics in the public rooms. Peggy has friends in the area, and will give us some other houses with porches that will be available in case of rain.

There's no official registration as we are all making our own arrangements, but we'd like to keep track of who is planning to go, so we can share info. I'm planning to go to Maine and then drive up (about 2 1/2 hours north of Bar Harbor) for a couple of days.

Visit the website (www.owenhouse.ca)--you'll be inspired! Call me or Peggy with questions.

PVW Painting in Maine – September 7-14, 2002
Southwest Harbor, Mount Desert Island, Maine

We've been through hurricanes and 9/11, but we refuse to think this trip is jinxed. Once again, we've rented Balla Cragga, a gorgeous old house in Southwest harbor with a panoramic view of the Somes Sound. If you can join us, fill out the form and send it with a $100 deposit (check made out to PVW) to: Gloria Logan, 7423 Hopa Court, Alexandria, VA 22306

The owners are limiting us to ten occupants this year, and of course the price has gone up.

I'll be happy to answer questions by email at [email protected] or by phone (703) 768-3004.
